The incredible people of Ladakh, helping and guiding us to safely wade through the intimidating Zanskar River. Frozen during the winter, the river used to be the only means of connecting the valley people of remote Zanskar Valley with the rest of Ladakh.

It was a beautiful morning that made me want to hike to some place but not too far, as I had a bus to catch that would take me back to Dehradun that evening. I ate a good breakfast, packed a small, light, day bag and set off to visit Sir George Everest House.

Tucked away amidst the rows of dusty brown mountains of the Himalayan ranges, is the hidden hamlet of Nako – a timeless beauty. I was very young when my parents along with some family friends had planned a visit to South India. Until then I had only seen that part of the country on maps. And of course, I had no idea then that I would eventually move for studies & work (& live – it’s been a decade now) in one of the cities down south.
